Key to our success is our firm commitment to training and developing
our people. Our MASCOT (Managing A Successful Company Over Time)
Programme, which was launched in 2001 to bring managers together
to provide everyone in the company with the necessary skills,
is a prime example.
We offer business development training to all key account directors
and managers, all of whom are also expected to complete IOSH
safety for Senior Executives. Time management training is another
popular course for directors and managers, and in addition to
CSCS Registration and training for site operatives and staff,
the majority of staff have attended a customer care course.
We also recognise how important it is to bring in young people
into our industry. We regularly attend the Cambridge Construction
Industry Summer School and have directly recruited Plumbing
and Mechanical and Electrical Apprentices for a number of years
with great success. In fact, one of our current Project Engineers,
who has been with us for 20 years, started life as an Craft
Apprentice.
On top of all of this, we bring in Building Service Trainees
every year, giving them exposure to all sides of the business
for a year before finding a role that suits them. To give them
the best start to their career, we fund and support their achievement
of a Higher National Certificate in Building Services via a
two-year college course.
However, existing employees have just as much chance to gain
professional qualifications, through long-distance learning
courses such as a BSc in Cost Management of Building Engineering
Services for Quantity Surveyors. Crucially, our involvement
doesn't stop at paying for these courses. Indeed, Directors,
managers and colleagues alike will show a real interest in your
progress, whether that means offering additional study leave
or input on your dissertation subject.
